Needs Assessment
Across the Hudson Valley, agriculture remains a cornerstone of the regional economy, landscape, and cultural identity. Yet the farmers and farmworkers who sustain this system are increasingly struggling to secure stable, affordable housing. Despite widespread recognition of a broader housing crisis, there is little localized, actionable data that captures the scale and specificity of agricultural housing needs. As a result, municipalities, funders, and housing organizations are limited in how they can respond. This report will clarify these challenges and help shape next steps.
This report will both demonstrate the need for, and approach to, our work. The twelve-month research project conducted by Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress will culminate in a publicly available report providing data to inform policy, guide funding, and support the development of housing solutions for farmers and farmworkers across the Hudson Valley.
